Our Mission
We are a nonprofit school grounded in Montessori pedagogy, accessible to families of all incomes, that places the needs of the children first.

We are located on the East Side of St. Paul and serve children 33 months through six years of age. Our experienced educators and enriching environment promote social-emotional development, healthy habits, and metacognitive skills alongside academics.

We strive to show compassion at all times and preserve the child's love of learning.
Dr. Maria Montessori developed her namesake philosophy and pedagogy after noting the false assumptions and failures of the traditional education system. She remarked, "The world of education is like an island where people, cut off from the world, are prepared for life by exclusion from it." After observing how children optimally learn and develop, she devised and refined a markedly different approach.
Individualized Lessons
In traditional classrooms, the teacher gathers children of vaguely the same age to learn the same thing, at the same time, on the same day. What an absurd project! Inevitably, most in attendance feel bored or completely lost. Alternatively, Montessori guides first identify what each child is both interested in and ready for and invite them to that particular presentation, thus preserving the magic of discovery.
Hands-On, Developmentally Appropriate Materials
Upon entering a Montessori Children's House, one three-year-old happily exclaimed, "Everything is my size!" The space belongs to the children, and they can access all of the beautifully crafted, intentionally designed materials. Some materials help develop practical life skills, while others represent mathematical concepts or promote language exploration.
Mixed-Aged Community
Children remain in the Children's House for three years, thus avoiding the tumultuous yearly transition between classrooms. Over three years, guides get to deeply know and understand each child, and children blossom from more timid newcomers to confident leaders.
